Here we present two strategies for creating convincing Marcato phrases.

First Strategy:

  1. Set all velocities to 101 so that every note has some degree of accent
  2. Set the first note of each beat to a velocity of 121
  3. Import the Midi file
  4. Listen to the default rendering
  5. If a given note isn't crisp enough, toggle the Accent Mark in the Notation Display
  6. If the note isn't loud enough, increase the Dynamic Mark in the Notation Display
  7. If the note still isn't loud enough, increase the Volume setting in the Waveform Adjustments

Second Strategy:

  1. Set all velocities to 99 so there is no accent
  2. Import the Midi file
  3. Listen to the default rendering
  4. The notes will not sound marcato yet
  5. Bump the dynamic mark up to fff for the first note of each beat (or each bar)
  6. Change the sample to a DIM ("fff > f", or similar)
  7. Now that note should have a very strong attack
  8. The intra-beat (or intra-bar) notes can remain REP or INT (instead of DIM)
  9. Experiment with adding Accent Marks to the offbeat (or back beat) notes
